Historical review

Gases del Caribe S.A., a public service company, was established on October 19, 1966, and began operations on January 2, 1967 with sales of propane gas to the entire Atlantic Coast, including Antioquia and San Andrés and Providencia. Due to the continuous decline in propane gas production, the company began planning its gradual substitution with natural gas brought from La Guajira.

Starting in 1968.

The company limited its service area to the departments of Atlántico, Magdalena and Cesar. At the time, the supply of gas was less than the demand. Due to this, the Government stipulated quotas and prices. Even so, there were several companies that provided the same service, but the gas did not reach the desired coverage levels.

In 1976

Gases del Caribe designed a modern, innovative and unique business project in the country, whose objective was to expand coverage, massify the home natural gas service and provide well-being to the community; For this, it was necessary to build distribution networks in the assigned areas in polyethylene pipe.

In 1977

We began to supply residential natural gas in Barranquilla through the internal distribution network connected to the Ballena – Barranquilla gas pipeline, owned by Promigas. Margarita Diago, a resident of the house located at Cra. 64 # 85 – 169, would become the first user in the country to start enjoying the benefits of natural gas and to take advantage of its benefits for the definitive consolidation of her business La Casa de Marguie. At the end of 1978 the supply to El Rodadero began, in the middle of 1982 to Sabanalarga and then it has continued to expand its networks to numerous towns in the departments in its area of influence.

Starting in 1968.

Gases del Caribe began the distribution of natural gas in the form of virtual gas pipelines, a system that consists of transporting liquefied or compressed natural gas through trailers or methane tankers, which transport the gas to the stations located in the different towns for then be distributed to homes and commercial establishments. That same year, Gases del Caribe had its main and administrative headquarters at Carrera 54 No 59-154 in Barranquilla. Valledupar was the pilot test in the virtual gas modality, and natural gas service was provided in up to five neighborhoods of the city, covering the needs of approximately 750 families from strata 1 and 2. The system was used provisionally while construction was being carried out of the Ballenas – Barrancabermeja gas pipeline, which took a year and a half, a period in which the service remained continuous and stable.

This technology has come to benefit not only some Colombian municipalities, but also several countries around the world, where, due to their geographical location, it is necessary to implement the technique to meet the need for this public service. Currently, the company supplies the municipalities of Algarrobo (Magdalena), Bosconia and El Copey (Cesar) under this modality.

Around 2013.

Taking into account the decline in the production of the La Guajira gas fields, which represents more than 90% of the natural gas that we distribute to our users, the company begins to study alternatives to diversify its supply sources in order to guarantee continuity of the service and increase its distribution assets, and ensure the competitiveness of its users based on medium and long-term commercial agreements with gas producers and minor fields located in the Caribbean region. Today, Gases del Caribe guarantees the distribution and commercialization of natural gas in its area of influence, as it is supplied by different sources of natural gas, among which the following fields (wells) stand out: Ballena, Bonga and Mamey, La Creciente, El Difficult, Guama, Maracas, Arjona, Nelson and Arianna.

Network coverage currently registered exceeds 90% in the departments of Atlántico, Magdalena and Cesar and in the northern area of Bolívar, where the service is provided to approximately 1 million users, distributed in more than 220 towns.

Currently, there is an approximate extension of two hundred kilometers of eight-inch steel pipe, which allowed expanding coverage and interconnecting the municipalities of the departments of Cesar and Magdalena.

Our quality policy consists of distributing and marketing natural gas safely and reliably, committing ourselves to continually improve our processes and services, and to satisfy the needs of customers in aspects associated with our operation, for which we have a competent human team. .

In this way, and efficiently, Gases del Caribe provides well-being to the community and its workers, profitability to its shareholders and protection of the environment, complying with legal, regulatory, technical and contractual requirements.
